My mother was very creative. We always joked that if something stood still long enough it may get painted or covered in fabric.
She loved sewing for our family. We were the envy of most little girls for the amount of doll, barbie and dress up clothes that she made for us. It would not be unusual to come home from school with our room painted, rearranged and new pillows ect sewn to match the new decor.
Like all children no matter what their age, their isn't anything my mother couldn't do; except beat cancer in 2010.
I have always been a lot like my mother, and continue to realize just how much; now more than ever.
Two years ago now, I became a mother to a beautiful little girl. She is the light of my life. At christmas, I shocked my husband by asking for a sewing machine and was determined to learn. After a few cheap sewing machines that got returned, my brother told my he had rescued one of my mother's older machines from a yardsale. I was thrilled. Now I had a machine with some sentimental value too.
I am saddened at times to realize that I no longer have the best teacher to learn from but inspired by the many memories of things she made for us over the years. I also have my aunt who has helped a great deal with my endless questions and providing encouragement along the way.
Parenthood has taught me a lot. I am my mother's daughter through and through. I now understand so much about my mother and wish she were here to tell her. I now understand the joy she felt as she made something for us and waited for our reaction.
Join me in my learning by the seat of my pants with seam ripper in hand method of sewing. Follow my blog and share some laughs at my attempts, fails, successes and memories as I am "Inspired by Mom".
