Join me as I stumble through parenting while learning how to craft and sew.

I am enjoying this journey and as always am inspired by my mother.

Bottoms up! Cloth diapers and swim diapers, let the fun begin?

I have more pictures of my baby sleeping than I would dare count. Mostly when her bum is in the air. I can't help myself, I am so drawn to how peaceful she looks and being so sound asleep, not a care in the world. I want to freeze time.

Bottoms up

We decided when I was pregnant that we were going to use cloth diapers, so we stocked up early. For my Husband's diaper party it was for cloth diapers. They are just too darn cute, not to mention cost effective. I honestly don't know how we would have been able to afford using disposables. I definitely would not be sewing that's for sure as there is nothing cheaper about making your own things most of the time. I have also learned it is not very cost effective to try to sell what you sew most of the time. I would not be able to charge enough to make my time worth it. (This also coming from a very inexperienced sewer) Breaking even on materials is about the extent of any of my profit. People do it obviously, and some are successful at it for sure. For me this has not proven to be profitable, especially now that I have returned to work. There is just not enough time to sew the all the things I want to let alone sew for anyone else.

Cloth diaper

I have had a lot of trials and tribulations over the last year or so while sewing diapers and swim diapers. I did splurge and get the Babyville pattern book for cloth diapers. I realized quickly that I HATE FOE (fold over elastic)!! More on that later. I am sure it is mostly something I am doing wrong and not the elastic's fault. I do love all the other Babyville products though.

I love AppleCheeks cloth diapers:). I have strived for something anywhere near resembling these. I may have set my hopes and expectations just a little too high lol. They are rated number 1 for many reasons (which is why we have lots). Mine will never make any list. They work, and they fit, and they are cute. But they are no where near AppleCheeks quality :( I now realize a year and a half later that yet another reason AppleCheeks are better fitting than mine is the fact that their PUL (Polyurethane laminate) is stretchy, and the PUL that I have been buying, sadly, is not:( They also use a serger for the nice professional looking edges. Maybe someday I will venture into buying one, I need to learn the basics of sewing first.

I still have had fun making a lot of diapers for my little princess. I am learning more and more how my mother must have felt making things for us. What a feeling:) Pride, excitement, accomplishment...ahhh

Just how many diapers does one girl need? There is always room for more, as long as they are cute:)
